Parques de Sintra – Monte da Lua

Since September 2012, the Portuguese School of Equestrian Art has been under the management of Parques de Sintra – Monte da Lua, S.A. (PSML) as is also the case with the National Palace of Queluz.

PSML is an exclusively state owned company founded in 2000 following the classification of the Cultural Landscape of Sintra as World Heritage in 1995. Its founding held the objective of gathering together the institutions holding responsibilities for safeguarding and valuing this Landscape with the Portuguese state handing down responsibility for the management of the key properties in the zone.

The shareholders of PSML are the following: the General Directorate of Treasury and Finance (35%), on behalf of the State, the Institute of Nature and Forest Conservation (35%), Tourism of Portugal (15%) and Sintra Municipal Council (15%).

In the World Heritage zone, spanning around 960 hectares, PSML manages around 45% of the total area, specifically the Parks of Pena and Monserrate, two of the most important botanical parks in the country, landmark buildings such as the Palaces of Pena and Monserrate, the Moorish Castle, the Convent of Capuchos and the Chalet and Garden of the Countess of Edla. In 2012, PSML was also attributed the management of the National Palace of Sintra and, outside of the classified area, the National Palace of Queluz and the Portuguese School of Equestrian Art with its headquarters in Queluz.
