Experience the magic of the historical recreation of a night spent in the Portuguese court of the 18th century.
This performance lasts for around ninety minutes with the riders wearing their full gala costume featuring a black felt tricorn, a long Bordeaux velvet jacket with a black collar and gold and black braiding along with black leather gaiters.
The horses, all Alter Real Lusitano thoroughbreds, make their appearance in their three-point Portuguese style braiding and embellished with silk ribbons with their Portuguese saddles covered in tapir hair or suede and carrying out exercises characteristic of the Baroque period such as the “Airs above the Ground” and the “Court Games”, tournaments held in the 18th and 19th centuries to commemorate festive occasions.
Classified as National Heritage, and one of the best in the world, the Portuguese School of Equestrian Art represents the continuation of the former Equestrian Academy founded by King João V in the 18th century and with the performance a reconstruction of one of the favourite court past-times of that period: Equitation.
